How to become a Fashion Blogger

Since I started blogging, I’ve had a few people message me and ask if I have any tips on how I started my blog, so I thought I would do a post on exactly what I have done and any tips I have.

If even one person finds this post useful then it was worth writing 🙂

I still have a long way to go before I achieve the goals I set myself before I started blogging, but I am happy with how things have progressed in the past 6 months and am excited about my future in the blogging world. I have a lot of exciting collaborations coming up so watch this space!

Why did I decide to become a blogger?

I have always been massively into fashion, and always been a little bit (a LOT) of a shopaholic so I am constantly coming home with new bits so I am certainly never lacking with content to share.

I have followed other bloggers for a number of years and watched on with envy thinking I wish I could do that for a job. Then one day I just thought, well why can’t I? So I did, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Starting your blog

There really is no top tip here or secret solution to start blogging, it is quite simple really… just start one!

I decided to use Blogger for my hosting site as they are really super easy to use and popular amongst bloggers.

I then purchased my own domain from www.123reg.co.uk and transferred my blogger to the website address.

Decide what style blogger you want to be and create your content to fit your theme.

It’s best if you can be active across all social platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube)

I link all my social media accounts to my blog so I can promote myself across all platforms.

Quality Content

One of the most important parts of being a Blogger is ensuring the content you create is attractive to your readers. Using a professional photographer or taking your own photos with a good camera is essential.

I use a photographer for all my blog post photos and then for product pictures or beauty shots I use my iPhone or my Canon DSLR and edit them all all with the same filter.

Attend events

Attending events is a big part of being a blogger. It’s a great way to meet other bloggers, connect with brands and general networking. You’ll never know who you’re going to meet so they are always worth going.
When I first started blogging I used to be scared to go to events , but I’ve met some great people and got new opportunities by attending them so it’s definitely worth it.

Post regularly

My biggest tip is to post regularly and stay active online. Your readers follow you for a reason, don’t be worried about annoying people with too many posts. The more the better!

I post twice a week on my blog (Wednesdays and Sundays) and every day on my Instagram.

Remember to not compare yourself to others. If you have a passion and you want you to blog about it, the only thing stopping you is yourself.

If you have any questions then please comment and I’ll get back to you.

White Out

A little different to my usual style, I went for a very feminine white look for today’s outfit.

The recent good weather in London has called for clothes that allow your body to breathe and be free and this two piece was the perfect outfit to do just that.

It’s amazing how wearing all white makes you feel more positive and bright about the day ahead. Especially strolling along South Kensington’s beautiful streets…

I teamed my white co-ord with some nude suede heels from Miss Pap. These are my favourite shoes at the moment because obviously they are my fav colour (nude queen) and they are high but still so comfy and easy to walk in. They are honestly my most comfortable heels I own!

As always, use my code TOULA10 to get 10% off anything from the babes at Miss Pap!

I personally think this look is perfect for something like graduation, going to see the races or a garden party.

In the nude

Who doesn’t love being in the nude?!

I have become a bit of a collector of bomber jackets & all things nude, so this two-tone camel bomber was a must have on my most recent Missguided haul.

The contrast satin two-tone sets it aside from your standard bomber jacket and adds a more dressy feel to your outfit.

I have styled it with this cute  white 3 piece from Miss Pap.

Do what you love, love what you do

Do what you love, love what you do

Growing up, I was always very set in what I wanted to do. For me, it wasn’t about just getting a degree and straight into a job that I knew was going to earn me a lot of money. Happiness was and always will be my priority.

I knew I wanted to work in fashion and wouldn’t settle for anything less. I studied Fashion Marketing at the University of Southampton and have worked in various roles in fashion ever since.

My advice and experience in preparing for and entering the fashion industry is a whole other ball game so keep your eyes peeled for a separate post on this.

Back to happiness – I read a quote recently that said ‘Happiness comes from within, and it is entirely up to you to create your own’. Whilst I agree it does come from within, happiness also comes from many other aspects in your life such as the environment you live in, factors affecting your life and the people you surround yourself with.

I have been lucky, in that I have lived a happy, healthy and comfortable life thus far. It is so good to say it and to realize how happy I actually am right now (Contrary to how I look in my photos, which my mum keeps telling me to smile in haha!)

However coming into 2016, there was a little fire in my belly that said ‘I want more’. Something inside of me just made me feel super motivated and positive about life and my goals.

I want to make this year the best yet. And every year after that even better. The only way to do that is to strive to do things that make you happy.

Goals

Setting yourself goals is a great way to motivate yourself and help monitor your achievements. It can be something so small like ‘grow my hair longer’ to ‘run a marathon’, but it just makes you feel so good when you achieve that goal.

My main goal for 2016 was to start focusing on something I love – fashion blogging.

I started my blog on February 15th 2016 and am so excited at how it has grown in a short period of time and what the future will bring.

I think starting a blog can take a lot of courage. There is no question that you will be judged – positively or negatively, people will have their opinions.

Blogging is one of those things that a lot of people don’t understand, so many friends and family have asked what it is and what’s the point?

The point is I love fashion and blogging is a way for me to channel that love and passion and it makes me happy. Simples.

Work hard, play hard and chase those dreams.

Camo me up

It seems that the fashion world is currently obsessed with camo print!

Camouflage was traditionally worn as more of an urban, street style and casual trend, but has most definitely now made it’s stamp in the main stream market and is available on pretty much every style of clothing you can imagine from tracksuits to coats to more formal wear such as dresses.

If you look at the latest collections in high-end brands such as Valentino, Saint Laurent and even at traditional brands such as Ralph Lauren you will see the much loved print!

Luckily for us fashion lovers with a slightly smaller budget, many stylish and affordable brands have adopted on this trend.

Khaki is such a great colour as it goes with so much and in my opinion, it suits everyone – I recommend teaming this jacket with white, nude or black for an ultimate colour match made in heaven.

I had been searching for the perfect camo jacket for a few months now, and I am glad I held out because this one from Miss Pap was certainly worth the wait!

It is lovely and lightweight and is a great way to dress up a simple and casual outfit.

Mesh is another trend that doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The white mesh bodysuit I am wearing is such a style steal at only £15, also from Miss Pap.

So March into the Military trend and shop now!
